The Center for Robotics at IIT Kanpur was established in 1989 through a grant from MHRD. It is an interdisciplinary centre, with associated faculty members from Aeronautical, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Departments. The centre is actively involved in carrying out research in various areas of robotics ranging from Kinematics, Dynamics and Design, Motion Planning, Intelligent Control, AI, Computer Vision, etc. In 1994 the centre was renamed as Centre for Mechatronics to better reflect its interdisciplinary nature. The centre does not offer its own degrees and the Students working here get the respective degrees from their parent departments. The centre also conducts summer training and short term courses and workshops for both Indian and foreign students, teachers and researchers.
